Sulphate

Sulphates are found naturally in several minerals. High levels of sulphates usually occur in groundwater due to natural sources. The average daily intake of sulphates is around 500mg and is predominantly due to food consumption.

WHO Limit

No health-based guideline is derived, but due to the gastrointestinal effects, health authorities should be notified in cases where sulphate concentrations exceed 500mg/l

Symptoms of Sodium Contamination

A concentration of 1000-1200mg/l has been found to cause a laxative effect, and high levels may cause an unpleasant taste.
