What is Intake24?
Intake24 is a free, open-source online dietary assessment system developed by researchers at Newcastle University UK, Monash University Australia and Cambridge University UK, to collect detailed information about what people eat and drink over the previous 24 hours. Users complete a guided recall on a computer, tablet or smartphone, selecting foods and drinks consumed, while the system uses food photographs, portion size estimation tools, prompts and automated food coding to improve accuracy and reduce the burden on researchers.
Unlike traditional interviewer-led dietary surveys, Intake24 can collect high-quality dietary data more quickly and at lower cost, making it suitable for large-scale nutrition research and national dietary surveys. It is currently used in the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey and has been adopted or adapted for use in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Brazil.
