About our Project
Building the Future of Nutrition Research Across Africa and Asia
Understanding what people eat is essential for tackling malnutrition, obesity and diet-related diseases. Yet in many low and middle-income countries, collecting high-quality dietary data remains expensive, time-consuming and difficult.
Intake24 Global is a major international partnership bringing together researchers from eight countries across Africa and Asia to develop and implement Intake24. The project will adapt the platform for local foods, languages and cultures in Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Through training, workshops and ongoing mentorship, partner institutions will build expertise in dietary assessment, food composition data and portion size estimation while developing country-specific food databases, portion size image libraries and tailored versions of the software. These localised systems will be tested with communities to ensure they are user-friendly, acceptable and fit for purpose.
The project will also establish an Open Nutrition Network, creating lasting collaborations across countries and sharing resources, knowledge and training materials openly. Ultimately, this work will help governments, researchers and health organisations generate the evidence needed to design more effective nutrition policies and programmes, improving health outcomes for millions of people.
Our vision: to make high-quality dietary assessment accessible, affordable and sustainable worldwide.
