Objectives

Accelerating Dietary Assessment Capacity Across LMICs

The project has five key objectives:

  1. Localise Intake24 in eight countries across Africa and Asia by adapting the system to local languages, foods, recipes, eating practices and food composition data.
  2. Build in-country capacity for dietary assessment by training researchers, nutritionists and software developers in dietary data collection, food composition analysis, portion size estimation and digital nutrition tools.
  3. Develop open-access nutrition resources, including country-specific food databases, food composition data, portion size photographs and dietary assessment tools that can be freely used by researchers and institutions.
  4. Evaluate the feasibility and usability of Intake24 in diverse settings by testing the system with local communities and identifying the most appropriate approaches for future validation studies and national nutrition surveys.
  5. Create a sustainable Open Nutrition Network that supports collaboration, knowledge sharing and South-South capacity strengthening, enabling countries to continue developing and using Intake24 beyond the lifetime of the project.
