Title: “Optogenetics 101: How light can control brain activity” (this presentation was a standalone event, and we invited the audience via mailing lists, therefore there is no link)
Description: For many decades researchers have been trying to find new ways to peek into one of the most mysterious parts of our body - the brain. Recently scientists discovered that something as simple as a beam of light can alter the activity of brain cells - but turns out, nothing is simple about it! This technique was named optogenetics. In this talk, the basics of optogenetics were covered. The participants learned how exactly, through many preparatory steps, one can control brain activity with light and what questions about the brain can be answered with optogenetics.
