Project Details

PMI2 Newcastle, funded by the British Council’s Prime Minister’s Initiative for International Education (PMI2), was a collaboration between Newcastle University (Civil Engineering and Geosciences) and The Pennsylvania State University (Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences). The proposed initiative investigated the important urban interactions of land transport and natural vegetation.

The project also involved IIT Delhi (Centre for Atmospheric Sciences) as an allied partner with their contributions to the collaborative research on Urban Heat Island mitigation. This offered a global appreciation of the range of changing urban environment types across three contrasting countries - UK, US and India. Newcastle University mainly contributed to knowledge development on enhancing realism in the anthropogenic emissions inventory applied to meso-scale modelling tools.
