Project Details

Nissan has developed various technologies to encourage the adoption of economical driving styles, to help improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions. Newcastle University, working in partnership with the University of Southampton, carried out pilot user trials of potential new eco-driving technologies, assessing their effectiveness in influencing driver behaviour from measurements of vehicle metrics, gathering qualitative feedback from users regarding system design and ergonomics, and also investigating wider user attitudes to eco-driving and climate change generally. The results from the project were utilised by Nissan to inform future technology development, and to inform future system trials elsewhere in the world.
