Sapienza University of Rome

With over 700 years of history 111,000 students, 4000 teachers and 2000 employees, technicians and librarians in addition to 2000 administrative staff in university hospitals. La Sapienza currently offers over 250 programmes and over 200 vocational master courses.  Over 30,000 students come from other Italian cities, nearly 8000 are international and over 3300 students a year come to Sapienza as part of international mobility programmes. 

The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology 'Vittoria Espamer' was born in 200 from the merger of the Institute of Medical Pharmacology and the Institute of Human Physiology.  In 2005, we merged the former Department of Pharmacology of Natural Substances and General Physiology.  The department now includes more than 50 scholars between professors and researchers from different research areas: physiology, pharmacology, pharmacognosy.  The department deals with different structures: the whole building of Medical Pharmacology, part of the building of Human Physiology and part of the building of General Physiology.  We have more than 15 years of experience of research in neurophysiology in NHPs studying both motor and cognitive cortical functions with a focus on parietal, premotor and prefrontal cortex examine the brain activity looking at the single cell activities. Recently we have focused our research on social cognition, transitive and movement inhibition.
