Newcastle University is a member of the prestigous Russell Group, comprising 24 leading research-intensive UK universities. We are in the top 1% of universities in the world by QS and 105 in the Leiden Ranking and 16th in the UK for research (2014 Research Excellence Framework). In 2016/17 we were awarded over £100 million of competitively won research funding. It is part of approximately 2000 research collaborations in 62 countries. It has one of the largest European Union research portfolios in the UK. In FP7 it was awarded 235 projects worth of 100million euros. In Horizon 2020 to date it has 150 projects awarded worth approximately 75million euros. It is a signatory to the EURAXESS Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) and is a holder of the EU HR Excellence in Research award.
Newcastle University has a world-class reputation for research excellence. In 2011 it became the first UK university to establish a fully owned international campus for medicine at its NUMed Campus in Malaysia. 95% of our students are in a job or futher training within 6 months of graduating. The Faculty of Medical Sciences hosts more than 6000 students studying the range of medicine and allied degrees. Postgraduate students are supported by the Faculty graduate school which offers a range of skills training.
