HEALTH AND SAFETY
At the Newcastle Fibrosis Research Group we take pride in having a duty of care with regard to the health & safety of our workers and collaborators. As with all employers in the UK we have legal obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Act of 1974 as outlined by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
Safety contacts and trainings
Mr. Lee Reed, our Laboratory Manager, has primary responsibility for implementing safety policy as well as overseeing general, GM, COSHH and bioCOSHH risk assessments.
In addition to health and safety inductions administered at a university, faculty and institute level, we have our own safety training matrix for new staff and students using some of the specialist equipment in our laboratory. Training involves reading and understanding of the relevant risk assessment document(s) and formal instruction from one of our competent persons. Please send an email to Lee Reed for more questions regarding this subject.
A database of Fibrosis Research Group health and safety documentation can be accessed here (Fibrosis Lab internal subscribers and members only).
