Race for Life 2023
The sun shone in Newcastle for a weekend of Race for Life events and the Drug Discovery group certainly took advantage, with several medicinal chemists, structural biologists and chemical biologists joining forces to take part in the hugely popular events and raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Dr Harriet Stanway-Gordon and her daughter, Percy, opted for the fun (and messy!) Pretty Muddy obstacle course on Saturday, while perhaps the less brave chose to take part in the ‘normal’ 5k and 10k races on Sunday!
After Dr Suzannah Harnor officially sounded the starter horn for the 10k race, Professor Mike Waring, Dr Mathew Martin and Dr Eilidh Mackenzie set off on a route which took them around Newcastle’s Town Moor. Mike crossed the line only a short distance behind the winner, with the others following closely after.
Next up was the 5k race, with Professors Akane Kawamura, Jane Endicott and Martin Noble all taking part with their family members.
2023 marks the 30th year of Race for Life and Newcastle Drug Discovery certainly had fun joining the celebration!
