In previous work, I have studied mechanisms which regulate sperm-triggered calcium oscillations and the metaphase-anaphase transition of meiosis I in chordate (ascidian) oocytes, and pursued the identification and functional analysis of meiosis-specific chromatin binding proteins from chordates. Collaborations with Drs Suzanne Madgwick and Mary Herbert enable me to test in mouse oocytes observations I have made in the ascidian.
Currently, I am working with Jonathan Higgins to investigate the role of histone phosphorylation in regulating the inheritance of gene expression patterns through cell division.
