WG1 working with families

Developing more open and trusting relationships between the children’s parents and the school is essential in improving families’ experiences of school and schools’ understanding of pupils.

Once a school decides to reach out to parents within a community, what next? Slovak Roma parents in Newcastle requested a mothers-only groupto begin with.  One group decided to meet every other week for social activities at the school, and another group is focussing on English language lessons at the school.  The number of mothers involved in the group has increased as news has spread by word of mouth.
