Founding of the NU Centre of Research Excellence in Cyber Security & Resilience
Latest News: We have founded the new Newcastle University Centre of Research Excellence (NUCoRE) in Cyber Security and Resilience.
The NUCoRE will kick off with a launch event on the 6th of April, 9:30-13:00.
Mission:
Our mission will research and innovate in cyber security & resilience of key emergent systems supporting individuals and society as a whole to guard safety, progress and prosperity.
The motto for the Centre will be: Protecting Society’s Fabric.
The initial research themes are designed to build bridges between Newcastle Research strengths and to fundamently yield cross-disciplinary values:
• Artificial Intelligence (led by Stephen McGough)
• Bio-/Nano Systems (led by Nat Krasnogor)
• Cyber-Physical Systems (led by Sergiy Bogomolov)
• Financial Technologies (FinTech, led by Marwa Elnahass)
• Medical Systems (led by Jaume Bacardit)
• Governance, Law and New Technologies (led by Ben Farrand)
These themes are complemented by cross-cutting research themes in:
• Human Identity and Trust (led by Deborah Chambers)
• Responsible and Sustainable Innovation (led by Karen Elliott)
The themes are led by seasoned investigators. They will make a concerted effort to create new research and impact opportunities, expand our talent pipeline, as well as offer upskilling, activities and events.
Who?
The NUCoRE will be led by its Director Thomas Gross together with a steering group of research theme leads. The membership will be open to staff, academics and PhD students from all faculties. The NUCoRE will benefit from assets of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research, incl., for example, the cyber security incident lab or the psycho-physiological measurement & eye tracking lab.
