Our group is located in the Institute of Cellular Medicine (ICM, Department of Dermatological Sciences) within the Medical School at Newcastle University. Newcastle University is one of the 24 Russell Group Universities in the UK. Russell Group Universities are committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector. Newcastle University Medical School is among the leading Medical Schools within the UK. Our institute (ICM) provides an electron microscopy service, a bioimaging facility with several microscopes, and a fully equipped histology lab and a biobank unit. We also have access to a FACS facility and a bioinformatics support team. Our lab is fully equipped for biochemical/molecular and cell biological research. According to the UoA1 element of the REF 2014, 38% of our research activity was of 4* and 46% 3* quality. The Dermatological Sciences Department with its close relationship and location to the Dermatological Clinic in the Royal Victoria Infirmary provides a highly collaborative environment. Julia Reichelt manages the departmental Journal Club and is involved in organizing a joint weekly dermatological research seminar between researchers, clinicians and international guest speakers. 

Julia Reichelt is affiliated to the North East England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI). NESCI with one of its focuses on skin stem cell research provides stimulating scientific and clinical input. NESCI organizes two annual Research Days, a monthly seminar series involving international invited speakers, and is involved in public engagement. With a view to apply our gene therapy approach in future clinical trials NESCI provides a running GMP facility.
