PROJECT WORKPLAN
WORK PACKAGES
The overall project comprises developing the methodology outlined and applying it to two case studies of different sizes, namely a portion of Haifa's water-distribution network in Israel and the whole of Valencia's network in Spain. To achieve that end, the corresponding research programme has been divided into some seven work packages as follows:

WP1: Inception workshop to agree methods of working, quality-assurance procedures, standards
          and accuracy, evaluation criteria etc.
WP2: Use of an ANN to replicate a complex hydraulic simulation model and the
          application to two case studies.
WP3: Development of an adaptive optimization procedure based on the GA approach,
          specifically for real-time control.
WP4: Combining the GA with the ANN for each case study, to form an optimal-
          control process for water distribution.
WP5: Extension of the optimal-control process to include contingency measures for
          pump failures, sticking valves etc.
WP6: Completion of the optimal-control system for each case study, through the inclusion of
          real-time demand forecasting.
WP7: Evaluation of the benefits and associated costs arising from real-time optimal-control
of water-distribution networks, definition of it's SCADA requirements and documentation of the methodology.
