Science outreach by Global change scientists

Overview

ONE Planet researchers collectively investigate climate and climate change, The Anthropocene, environmental informatics, and earth system processes. Therefore, they are uniquely placed to deliver holistic public outreach on a large range of global-change sciences.

The group was founded with the aim of mainstreaming understanding of the processes associated with global environmental changes, inspire positive change and action for our earth, develop novel approaches of delivering science
outreach, foster positive ongoing partnerships with organisations already engaged in outreach in the local area, and provide PhD researchers with a platform to expand their science communication skills.

So far this year we have delivered two of our own events in collaboration with Newcastle University STEM outreach and The Great North Museum and contributed to three more organised by Newcastle University. We are due to produce two more events in collaboration with the Great North Museum as well as an eco-week in collaboration with Northumbria University STEM Outreach.

About us

So far 18 postgraduate research students have been involved in preparing and delivering our activities. Our central committee consists of six individuals, with an additional six who have contributed to the design and delivery and seven who have contributed towards the delivery of events. This has mostly consisted of ONE Planet DTP students but also includes 2 other Northumbria or Newcastle University students. We welcome contributions from any PGR with an enthusiasm for science outreach. If you are interested in getting involved in any capacity please email f.ridley1@ncl.ac.uk.
