NUFEB SynBio team attend SBUK 2018 in Bristol

NUFEB scientists, Prof. Anil Wipat, James Skelton, Lucy Eland and Michael White presented posters of their work at the annual Synthetic Biology UK conference, held in Bristol in November 2018.

The conference brought together scientists from all of the major UK centres in Synthetic Biology, including an excellent turn out from Newcastle University, and a number of internationational guests. Research presented ranged from Synthetic protocells and the simplest forms of life to work on using synthetic biology methods to cure disease in humans, and from purely computational tools and pipelines, to pilot scale and lab scale experimantal work. The conference also had a strong focus on responsible innovation, and challenged us as scientists at every level to do our bit to make sure that our work is ethical, responsible and useful for the world.

The conference dinner was held on the SS Great Britain, in the recently restored First Class Dinning room. The ship, designed by Brunel and launched in 1843, provided a fantastic backdrop to a very enjoyable dinner and much discussion of the exciting science presented during the day.
