On Thursday the 22nd of February, Futoshi Kurisu, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at Research Center for Water Environment Technology, The University of Tokyo, Japan adressed the NUFEB project team and the Envronmental Engineering research group. His talk on the use of non-target screening analysis to understand microbial growth in environmetal water was very engaging. Futoshi and his group use high resolution mass spectrometry to characterise the disolved organic matter in water samples, with a view to understanding 'who treats what in polluted water and how'. So far his groups work has focussed on reclaimed water for use in the home and effects of chlorination downstream of water treatment. The work presented has great potential to be applied to wastewater treatment in the future, to understand the breakdown of micropollutants.
Thanks to Futoshi for his interesting and inspiring talk.
