About our Project

'Chemsex in the North East' is a collaborative social research project focuses on the Chemsex scene in the North East to address a gap in knowledge and understanding, specifically around (drug) prevalence, and the people and places that make up the scene.

The project will generate robust and clearly focused experiential and statistical data to build a picture of Chemsex in the North East from the perspectives of the people involved. Project data will be produced in collaboration with Newcastle City Council, services and Newcastle’s LGBTQ+ community.

The findings will be used to inform outreach materials and activities for people in the Chemsex scene who are currently not in touch with services (council, charities), and who may need support and information, including around drug harm reduction, sexual health, and youth exploitation.
