Newcastle University recognised Dr. Alderson achievements in the field of children’s literature, awarding him a second honorary doctorate.

Justin G. Schiller Prize
The American Bibliographical Society's Justin G. Schiller Prize was jointly received by Brian Alderson and his co-author, Andrea Immel, for their work on Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song-Book.
2008
Harvey Darton Award
The biennial Harvey Darton Award from the Children’s Books History Society recognises a book, published in English, which extends our knowledge of some aspect of British children's literature of the past. Brian Alderson received the Harvey Darton Award with Felix de Marez Oyens for Be Merry and Wise.
2001
Honorary doctorate, University of Surrey
Now the University of Roehampton, the University of Surrey awarded Brian’s first honorary doctorate in 2002.

Eleanor Farjeon Award
Dr Alderson was recognised by the Children’s Book Circle as the third winner of the Eleanor Farjeon Award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to the world of children’s books by an individual or organisation.
