  3. IET : Professor Haisheng Chen

Objective: Processing industries are extremely large consumers of thermal energy and there are huge opportunities to improve its utilisation within processes and ‘over-the-fence’ options to reduce overall energy demand. SWAN coordinates the EPSRC PRO-TEM network (EP/G059284/1) for academic, industrial and all other stakeholders in this field and has just completed a collaborative EPSRC research project (EP/G059284/1) in this area. Collaboration with SJTU and IET would extend this work to carry out two case studies in processing industries in China and investigate the sources of thermal energy, the potential cost effective recovery and assess potential uses.

Engagement: Short-term visits will be coordinated between SWAN and SJTU to conduct the case studies, gathering and analysing data and producing comparative studies of the results from China with that of the UK.
