ERP
The Department of Spatial Planning in Europe at the University of Dortmund,
Germany, was established in November 1993 and is funded by the European Commission
as a Jean-Monnet-Chair. It undertakes both teaching and research work within the sphere of
European spatial planning. Activities include:
Monitoring, analysing and forecasting spatial planning processes in Europe;
Monitoring European institutions and their spatial policies, programmes, plans and instruments;
Assessing and evaluating the impact of these policies and programmes on the development of spatial and settlement structures
in Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ruhr Area;
Comparing spatial developments and strategies in Germany with
those in other European countries.
The University of Dortmund will lead the international thematic study into universities and culture and undertake
regional case studies in the Ruhr and Berlin.
