Comparative spatial planning in Europe; spatial restructuring of traditional industrial regions; creative and innovative approaches to regional development; the role of culture for urban and regional development; planning education.

Additional Background
For two decades Klaus has monitored urban development trends and policies in Europe and based on his research in this field is a frequent speaker at international conferences on European urban and regional development. He has served as a policy advisor to the European Commission and the Council of Europe, as well as to Governments in Nepal, Malawi, Brazil and the Yemen Arab Republic on behalf of GTZ (German Technical Cooperationn program). More recently, upon request of the European Commission, Klaus has been advising studies for the future of London and Berlin. As a visiting professor he has been among others, at the Institut Français d' Urbanisme of the Université Paris VIII (1990), the ORL-Institut of the ETH Zürich/Switzerland (1992), the Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of California, Los Angeles (1993), and the Departmment of City and Regional Planning of the University of Cardiff, Wales (1998/2002).

Tata, Lars (ERP)

Lars, born in 1970, has belonged to the academic staff since January 1999. He studied in Dortmund at the Faculty of Spatial Planning until 1997. His diploma thesis deals with urban marketing as a new concept for urban development. His interest is focused on innovative concepts and strategies of urban and regional development in Europe. At the Department of Spatial Planning in Europe he is involved in the project "Universities in Regional Development (UNIREG)" which is funded by the EU. Further Lars has a scholarship for participating in the project "International Comparison of Structural Changes in the Ruhr Area" which is organised and financed by the Initiativkreis Ruhrgebiet.
