Raquel de Pedro Ricoy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Heriot-Watt University, where she teaches translation and interpreting theory and practice at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. She also supervises doctoral candidates working on projects related to various aspects of translation and interpreting.
She completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Valladolid (Spain) and was subsequently awarded a PhD by the University of Edinburgh (UK) for a thesis on translation. She has worked as a freelance lexicographer for Oxford University Press and as a consultant author and reader for the Open University, as well as undertaking professional translation and interpreting jobs. Her research interests lie in translation and interpreting in public-service settings and the translation of multimodal texts. She has published many papers and lectured extensively on those topics in several countries.
She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
