Dr Joanne Swaffield

Jo is a Research Excellence Academy Fellow, based in the politics department at Newcastle University. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Politics in December 2012 from Newcastle University. In 2013, Jo was appointed Research Associate at the Sustainable Consumption Institute, University of Manchester. She engaged in a three-year project focusing on the environmental and social problem of food waste before returning to Newcastle University in October 2016. Jo is currently leading the fieldwork for the project: 'Individual Responsibility for Realising Human Rights: Climate Change, Poverty and Other Problems and Aggregate Effects'. Her research interests include: the politics and policy of sustainable waste management and the politics of climate change and individual behaviour.
