Opportunities for Schools

Research Schools:   The Research Schools Network aims to create a network of schools that supports the use of evidence to improve teaching practice. Research Schools work with other schools in their network to share what they know about putting research into practice and help them to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching. There are many evidence-based resources and tools available to help improve teaching practice and raise the attainment of pupils, but it can be difficult to get research into schools in ways that really make a difference in the classroom. Research Schools aim to lead the way in the use of evidence-based practice. Through the network they share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools in their region to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.

Innovation Evaluation Grants:   The IEE Innovation Evaluation Grants are available to schools that are working closely with the Research Schools Network. They are awarded by the IEE to provide funding for pilot evaluations of innovations of teaching and learning approaches that support the Research Schools Network’s goal to improve the attainment of pupils by increasing the use of evidence-based practices.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships:   The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme helps businesses in the UK to innovate and grow. It does this by linking them with an academic or research organisation and a graduate. A KTP enables a business to bring in new skills and the latest academic thinking to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project through a knowledge-based partnership. The academic or research organisation partner will help to recruit a suitable graduate, known as an Associate. They will act as the employer of the graduate, who then works at the company for the duration. The scheme can last between 12 and 36 months, depending on what the project is and the needs of the business.

Seven Stories:   Seven Stories is the National Centre for Children's Books and is a KTP success story. They save, celebrate and share the wonderful world of children’s books ensuring its essential place in childhood and in Britain’s cultural life. They have founded a national children’s literature archive that contains the manuscripts and artwork of over 250 authors and illustrators, saving this precious literary heritage for future generations to enjoy. Their exhibitions, which tour across the UK, showcase this extraordinary material in a playful and immersive way that encourages children, young people and grown-ups to play, learn and be inspired. Their exciting learning programme encourages many thousands of children, students, families and teachers to choose, enjoy and share books together.
