ONE Planet Doctoral Training Partnership

Our approach

Our vision is to provide a training environment that develops and fosters innovative, transformative ways of working, within an open and supportive cohort-based community of researchers.

We aim to produce independent research scientists and future leaders. We work together with our academic community and external partners to design sustainable transdisciplinary responses needed to address intensifying global change. Visit this video to find out more about how we are trying to make a difference.

ONE Planet provides a cohort-based doctoral training partnership at Newcastle and Northumbria Universities. The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC) funds the partnership.

The proximity of Newcastle and Northumbria Universities within the City of Newcastle upon Tyne allows ONE Planet to achieve a strong doctoral community.

The ONE Planet DTP is committed to ensuring that we embed equality, diversity and inclusion into all activities. From our recruitment process, training programme, and governance processes, we aim to provide a welcoming and supportive community of researchers.

Our Doctoral researchers have a clearly structured route to achieving a PhD degree, with fixed milestones (e.g. induction, assessment of training needs, development of the research proposal, annual progress review), and a cohort training programme designed to be both guiding and flexible depending on each researchers' development needs.
