Murakami’s Japanese texts are now available in more than 50 languages. The project hosted a public symposium 'Murakami, Contemporary Japanese Writing and the English-reading Marketplace' exploring issues related to the process of translating Japanese literature. The symposium was held at Newcastle University on 7 March 2018.

A practice-based workshop was held prior to the symposium.
