The academic conference '40 years with Murakami Haruki' will be held at Newcastle University on 8-9 March 2018.

2018 marks the fortieth year since Murakami first decided to write a novel while watching a game of baseball at the Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo (or so the story goes).

Coinciding with this anniversary, the project hosts an international conference exploring various aspects of Murakami, his literary works and characters, as well as their transmedial reach.

The call for papers is now closed. The conference is free of charge, but registration is essential.

We have experienced a large number of registrations and the conference is at full capacity.

We are currently accepting waiting list registrations for the conference.
