Aditi Nafde portrait photographAHRC Early Career Leadership Fellow Dr Aditi Nafde is a lecturer in Medieval Literature in the School of English Literature, Language & Linguistics at Newcastle University and the PI of this project. She gained a DPhil from Oxford University and an MA and BA (Hons) from UCL. Her research interests in book history take her to archives around the world investigating the effect of print on scribal practice and reading practice.

 

MattDr Matthew Coneys was the project's Post Doctoral Research Associate. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick, an MA from UCL and BA (Hons) from Cambridge. His research deals with the circulation of texts in medieval and Renaissance Italy, with a particular focus on travel accounts and manuscript/print hybrids.‌

 

KateDr Kate Court is a Research Software Engineer at Newcastle University. This means she provides development work on research projects across the University, including Hands-on Reading and other ATNU projects. Kate retrained as a Software Engineer at Newcastle University after coming from a background in the Arts.

 

FionaFiona Galston is a Research Software Engineer at Newcastle University. She joined the team in April 2019 after working in industry as a software developer. Fiona has worked on a variety of projects for ATNU and the Alan Turing Institute. She specialises in web development and contributed largely to the user interface for the Hands-on Reading application.

 

Susan Hufton has over forty years of experience as a calligrapher and teacher, working to commission by writing and painting letters for many different uses, in handmade books, on panels, walls and on fabric. Her work is included in collections at the V&A, the Fitzwilliam and the Crafts Study Centre as well as in private collections. You can see her work and read more at www.susanhufton.co.uk.‌

 

Animating Text Newcastle University (ATNU) is a digital collaboration between scholarly editors based in humanities disciplines and the Digital Institute. It seeks to create new ways in which readers/users can interact with texts, and to explore and test opportunities for immersive reading/writing.
