Tudor Plays in Performance

  • Venue: Old Library Building 2.21
  • Start: Fri, 01 Mar 2019 16:00:00 GMT
  • End: Fri, 01 Feb 2019 18:30:00 GMT

At this theatrical MEMS event, we are delighted to welcome Professor Jessica Winston (Idaho State University), who will be speaking on ‘Between Theatre and Reading: Early English Plays on BBC Radio (1956-1957) and Traditions of 'Partial Performance''.

Professor Winston’s talk will be followed by a staged reading of little-known Tudor interlude The Disobedient Child: a play that features a shrewish wife, a troublesome son, a sentimental song, a surprisingly educated 'maid-cook', and the devil himself. Drinks and nibbles will accompany the performance.

This event is organised by Dr Emma Whipday (Newcastle), with collaborators Dr Freyja Cox Jensen (Exeter) and Dana Key (UCL), and is funded by MEMS and the Leverhulme Trust.

For catering purposes we would be grateful if you could register here – https://forms.ncl.ac.uk/view.php?id=3812442 – by 28th February.
