Cohort Round 2 is now closed
Cohort Round 2 is offering up to 3 scholarships for excellent PhD applicants aiming to research topics within the scope of Marine Zero, with expected start dates of April/September 2024.

The scholarship comprises:
- Tuition fees (home or international) for the duration of study
- UK students will also receive an annual stipend based on current UKRI rates (currently £18,622 tax free)
The application process is as follows:
- Interested applicants should contact a suitable academic from our team to discuss your project idea or research interests in the first instance (also see specific topics listed at the bottom of this page)
- If you are unsure who to contact please email soe.pgr@ncl.ac.uk outlining your interests, and we will advise further
- On approval with your potential supervisor, applicants should complete an application via the university portal before the Round 2 deadline*
- In December applicants will be shortlisted and may be invited to interview
- Final review and selection of scholarships will be completed by the marine Zero programme committee
- Successful applicants will be notified and their applications progressed
* Initial applications to the university portal must be received by the deadline, but may have outstanding requirements such as IELTS, Visa and ATAS clearance. These can be progressed appropriately after the deadline has passed.
Criteria for selection comprise:
- Excllence of the candidate's academic background and credentials
- Performance at interview
- Appropriateness of the research area and topic lined to the Marine Zero themes.
- Industry involvement including match funding
