Part 1

In this part of the session you will be asked to watch a video of the presentation and do two activities. All of the links and resources mentioned in the video are available on this page.

It will be useful to print off the handout prior to watching the video. The video will tell you when and how to do the workshop activities.

Handout 1 Promoting Robust Language Development CPD (pdf)

Sharing ideas

When we planned to have an event at the University, we wanted to include an opportunity for you to work with colleagues from other LIVELY schools. You can use the noticeboard at Padlet to share your thoughts, questions and comments.

The LIVELY team will be monitoring this board and responding to your posts.

Watch the video below.

Activity 1: What is a language rich environment?‌

‌Spend a few minutes thinking about what a 'language rich environment' is. How would you explain this term to a parent or colleague?

Activity 2: Siren Films video

Watch the video from Siren Films: Why don't cows live in the water?

How to access the Siren Film video (pdf)

Make some notes about what the adult is doing to provide a rich language environment.

Then go to Part 2 of this session.

Huge thanks to the wonderful Siren Films who make the best films and teaching resources I have come across about child development. The team at Siren Films have made this clip freely available for us to use for this CPD training. Thank you!
