Quality control (QC) procedures for sub-daily precipitation have been developed using the UK hourly dataset.

in general terms this:

- Identifies suspect rainfall amounts using >20 different site specific and multi-gauge tests and applying corresponding QC flags

- Uses an automated ‘rule base’ that may be used to apply either single or multiple QC flags to exclude suspected erroneous data

- QC flags may be provided with data so that excluded data is traceable and, if desired, licensed users can apply their own rule base/explore uncertainties
