Dr Elizabeth Lewis recently joined the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) at Deutsche Wetterdienst for a two week research visit in Offenbach, Germany. The purpose of the visit was a knowledge exchange on global precipitation quality control methods. GPCC preform extensive manual quality control of monthly and daily precipitation data and the INTENSE project has been developing automated QC methods for sub-daily rainfall. The exchange has led to a strong partnership between the GPCC and INTENSE project and many of the manual GPCC checks have been incorporated into the INTENSE QC code as well as a neighbourhood analysis check of the sub-daily rainfall data against the GPCC daily and monthly rainfall data.
