Nigat Ashenafi

Nigat Ashenafi is an associate researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, working in the nutrition, environmental health, and non-communicable disease research directorate. She holds an MSc degree in food science and technology from Hawassa University and a BSc degree in applied chemistry from Addis Ababa University. She has participated in various projects, including the National Food and Nutrition Survey, establishing a surveillance system on food adulteration in major cities to improve food safety in Ethiopia, the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI), and co-leading the update of the Ethiopian food composition table project. She has extensive experience in food composition analysis and the development and compilation of food composition tables. Additionally, she is a Good Food research fellow at the Periodic Table of Food Initiative Center of Excellence at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute. She is currently working on the intake 24 project.
