Tenderness as disposition: social media immersion as research preparation

Dr Pearlin Teow, Research Associate, Population Health Sciences Institute, Newcastle University

This session explores the significance of breast cancer related tattoos using a care-full approach that is shaped by two years of emotional immersion within social media platforms. Drawing on Mannix’s (2021) concept of tenderness as disposition, this session reflects on the pros and cons of using social media to inform sensitive research methodology and researcher reflexivity.
