Sue Bellass will be presenting her work on qualitative longitudinal work involving people living with multiple long-term health conditions:
Living with multiple long-term conditions (MLTC; more than one long-term health condition) is becoming increasingly common nationally and globally. Recognition of the impact of MLTC on individuals and healthcare systems has led to increased research funding, a key strategic focus of which is understanding ‘what matters’ to people living with MLTC.
Qualitative research is ideally positioned to develop such insights into the priorities of people living with MLTC, yet much of the existing research is cross-sectional, which is limited in its ability to capture transitions, continuities and fluctuations in experiences over time. In this talk, I will share preliminary insights from a qualitative longitudinal study conducted with fifteen people living with MLTC who participated in two semi-structured interviews at least a year apart. This dynamic, temporal approach to understanding MLTC offers insights into how experiences unfold over time, how needs and priorities shift, and how people make sense of the past, present and future in the context of MLTC.
