Objectives

Aim 1:
Refine our condition assessment tool to include risk evaluation variables to produce a CARE tool.

Compile and evaluate variables known to contribute to the significance of and impact on rock art panels, in consultation with heritage managers.

Aim 2:
Co-produce a CARE toolkit that is user-friendly for non-experts

We will develop a pilot Toolkit A in discussion with heritage managers and a focus group with end-users regarding what type of toolkit would most likely be used in the field. Then we will pilot the toolkit with rock art enthusiasts. Next, the feedback gathered during the piloting of toolkit A will contribute to the production of Toolkit B, which will test by the rock art enthusiasts and a group of non-specialist volunteers. Feedback and observations from the second pilot will considered and the final CARE Toolkit produced.

Aim 3:
Gather mineralogical, environmental, and CARE specific data

Mineralogical, environmental, and CARE specific data will be collected during the second pilot exercise and again at 15 panels at two new locations: one in the Republic of Ireland and the other in Scotland.

Aim 4:
Co-produce a CARE how-to-guide together with land managers/owners of rock art panels

This guide will be co-produced with heritage managers and land mangers/owners through focus groups and individual feedback sessions

Aim 5:
Disseminate CARE data, education materials, and the how-to-guide to the greatest number of interested parties both in the UK and internationally.

Identify the most effective medium for disseminating CARE materials. At a minimum, dissemination will include online sources, target emailing of electronic sources, press releases, popular articles, and professional publications.
