Objectives: This research theme will support the advancement of knowledge, both conceptually and in terms of practical strategies of sustainable urban management in the very different contexts provided by Europe and China, with a particular emphasis on the issues presented by retrofitting to reduce energy demand in cities with historic infrastructure.

Engagement: SD and JP are already collaborating with Wuhan and Peking Universities on sustainable urban management research proposal. Reciprocal visits SWAN-WU and SWAN-PU to carry out preliminary research and support the development of further proposals.
