Research from Tsinghua University has generated a model for soil nitrogen supply. The Newcastle farms have an extensive database for soil (bulk density, pH, soil organic carbon, total N/P, clay etc.), weather data, crop parameters (DTT, water requirements, C/N ratio, maximum biomass, N demands), management (irrigation, fertilization etc.), historical data of biomass and yield. This provides a ready-made database on which too validate and refine the Chinese DCNC model. The DNDC model is being applied to simulate daily crop-water-N changes, and to evaluate how different management and weather condition affect the crop growth, yields, N balance in soil, N leaching, and GHG emission (CO2, N2O, CH4).
