Project Description:

This PhD would look at the design of electrical machines as components within transport infrastructure. A key focus will be investigation of the vibration behaviour of electrical machines within it. The steady state oscillation may cause problems but also the process through which the machines are driven to these rotation rates may excite certain vibration modes of the machines themselves and also the surrounding structure. Having investigated this, issues and restrictions may be found and then new methods/analyses can be used to alleviate these problems. These investigations would involve both computational simulation of the behaviour and also practical investigations on appropriate devices to verify the results.
