Information for patients and carers

Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of dementia, however it is difficult to diagnose. The purpose of this programme is to develop a simple assessment tool to be used in memory clinics and movement disorder clinics in order to improve the rates of diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson's disease dementia, so that appropriate treatment can be started as soon as possible. We are also working towards producing a standardised guide to management of the illness so that people who have Lewy body dementia receive the same level of care wherever they live within the UK.

The study teams at Newcastle and Cambridge are not able to provide support or advice for people affected by dementia or movement disorders.
