Sensing and Stimulation
CNITs often suffer from stimulation artefacts that hinder simultaneous monitoring and manipulation of neural activity. We will explore innovative solutions to eliminate or mitigate crosstalk in bidirectional interfaces to allow continuous, closed-loop interaction.
Examples of research in this WS include the reengineering of sensors, transducers and circuit designs to suppress artefacts, the development of novel signal processing techniques and control algorithms to correct or compensate for crosstalk and exploring hybrid approaches that combine different recording/stimulating modalities. Solutions are likely to arise from holistic consideration of the closed-loop system, rather than focussing on any one individual component. Thus, we expect this WS to generate collaborative research that draws on multiple engineering specialties represented within the network.
