Charities

The Drug Discovery Group at Newcastle is one of 4 core-funded CRUK Drug Discovery Units (DDU) in the UK, together with the CRUK Cancer Therapeutics Unit at the Institute of Cancer Research London, the Drug Discovery Unit, CRUK Manchester Institute and the CRUK Drug Discovery Unit, The Beatson Institute. Since the founding of the drug discovery group in Newcastle in 1990, many charities have supported our work.

The success of the drug discovery program stems from the close ties cultivated with industrial counterparts. Since its inception the drug discovery program has enjoyed associations with a number of industrial partners including Lilly, AstraZeneca and Clovis Oncology. We currently have a strategic alliance with Astex Pharmaceuticals focusing on delivering new chemical entities for therapeutic benefit.
