Dr Chan's group is interested in the interplay between DNA replication and chromosome segregation, and how cells achieve accurate, equal distribution of chromosomes into daughter offspring cells to maintain genome integrity. In particular, they investigate the mechanism by which cells process sister DNA intertwining structures to ensure complete chromosome disjunction in mitosis. They also study how the mitotic DNA damage associated with DNA bridges may initiate and trigger cancer genome evolution.
