WT5: Intervention Evaluation

Work Task Description:

WT5 will quantify reductions in pollution concentrations achieved by interventions and mitigation measures developed in WT5. This will be carried out for each of the key sectors for the medium and long-term time horizons identified in WTs 3 and 4. For example, for the transport sector, improved emission models (taking into account changes in vehicle technology, fleet composition, modal split, traffic flow and speed) will be used to estimate emissions. In collaboration with the PROMOTE project, air quality models will be set up and applied to predict concentrations to compare with the current levels and also with the current and NAAQS standards and WHO Targets

WT5 will investigate the potential barriers which could affect the expected delivery of the recommended mitigation measures. These barriers could be political, economic, social or behavioural. We will also investigate what is required to make these interventions and mitigation measures work (political measures e.g. regulation, fiscal instruments etc.; behavioural changes through education, training and social media; involvement of governmental and non-governmental organisations; increasing availability of cleaner technologies on the open market). Stakeholder engagement is again crucial to understand the barriers to the success of mitigation measures and for developing a pathway to the effective delivery of the recommended mitigation measures.
