Project Description

The study aims to systematically review and meta-analyse evidence for clinical effectiveness and model efficiency of focal ablative therapies in the treatment for localised prostate cancer within the United Kingdom National Health Service (UK NHS).  The specific objectives of the study are to:

  1. Describe clinical care pathways for treatment of localised prostate cancer in aUnited Kingdomcontext
  2. Summarise evidence of the clinical effectiveness and safety of each ablative therapy concerning:
    1. Primary treatment of localised low/intermediate risk prostate cancer compared with active surveillance, radical prostatectomy and external beam radiotherapy
    2. Primary treatment of localised high risk prostate cancer compared with radical prostatectomy and external beam radiotherapy
    3. Salvage treatment for local prostate cancer relapse after external beam radiotherapy compared with salvage radical prostatectomy
  3. Determine which therapies are most likely to be efficient for implementation into the United Kingdom National Health Service
  4. Identify future research needs
