Looking at Picture Books: Part 6
19th November 2014
This talk will critically survey some of the distinct picture book genres that emerged in Victorian times.
In 1973 bibliographer and critic Brian Alderson mounted an exhibition on 'Looking at Picture Books'. Now, forty years on, he plans to revisit the subject.
Picture books are some of the first books we encounter, but how did they develop? What is their history, and how are they created? This series of lectures will offer the opportunity to view original material and rare books and to learn more about them, provide insights into how picture books can be used, and reveal the process of creating a picture book.
